Help decide what our Other 98% signs should say on Wall St.
April 23, 2010 | In: Resources
Members of The Other 98% who live in or near New York are heading to an action on Wall St. this coming Thursday, April 29th. We will be demanding that Wall St. be placed under adult supervision — that they accept the strong regulation we need to prevent further economic meltdowns. Below, you can help decide what signs to bring.
One of our biggest challenges in the fight against corruption is that the rest of us are fighting a rigged game. Over the last 40 years, Wall St. players have become tax dodging artists, and for every multibillion dollar loophole they carve out the rest of us are left to pick up the tab.
Former President Bush promised us that unprecedented tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans would create jobs. But we borrowed almost $1 trillion from China to give tax cuts to millionaires and all we got was this lousy derivatives market. Meanwhile the middle class has taken on more and more of the tax burden.
It’s been almost two years since Wall St. scheming brought our economy to its knees. We’ve bailed out the banks and yet the same shady characters still flaunt the same financial weapons of mass destruction that have wreaked havoc on the middle class (and easily could again).
More and more groups are fighting to put an end to this. We want to help.
Help us write the signs our members will bring to an action on Wall St. this Thursday, April 29th. We will be demanding that Wall St accept the strong financial reforms we need to prevent the same mistakes of the last decade. Because no bank can be too big to fail – and no banker can be too big to jail. .
Write your suggestions in the comments below. We’ll narrow down the 20 best ones and set up a poll in a couple of days so the rest of you can vote for the final set.
Thanks for your passion and effort!
