“I AM THE OTHER 98%!” — Call and Response Speech
Raise your hand :
- if you’re a Wall Street banker.
- if you got a $10 million dollar bonus this year.
- if you’ve got an army of lobbyists in Washington.
- if you destroyed the economy — and then got a bailout from the Fed.
Not a lot of those folks here today, eh? Thing is, there aren’t a lot of those folks in general. You take the CEOs, the Wall St. Bankers, you take their lobbyists, you take the most connected and privileged people in the country, and at tops, you’ve got maybe 2% of the population. Should they be calling the shots? No!
There’s a feeling in the country that democracy is broken. Working men and women, we’re feeling it. Even the Tea Party is feeling it. Oh, but it’s working just fine for Wall Street. It’s working just fine for this 2% who think they’re the only ones that matter. They’ve captured Washington and they’ve rigged the system in their favor.
Is that the way it should be? No!.
Are we going to let that stand? No!

- if you’re paying off a mortgage.
- if you or your kid had to take out a loan to go to college.
- if u ever had to rely on an unemploy check to pay the rent
- if you make less than $200K.
Yeah, that’s us. We’re The Other 98%.
We are America, and we want our country back.
If you play by the rules and expect Wall St and Washington to do the same, let me here you say I am!
If you’re among the 98% of Americans who believe democracy is about We, The People, not They, The Corporations, say I am.
If you believe the Middle Class is too big to fail, and no Wall Street banker is too big to jail, say I am.
If you own a home and you’ve got a mortgage and you just want a fair shake at achieving the American Dream, say I am!
If you believe small business owners who can’t afford to buy their own lobbyist should still have a voice, say I am!
If you believe that what’s good for Wall Street is only good if it’s also good for Main Street, say I am.
If you think the economy shouldn’t be the plaything of the Big Banks, but instead should work for The Other 98% of us, say I am!
If you’re ready to bring some adult supervision to Wall Street, say I am.
If you’re ready to stand up and be counted, say I am.
If you’re ready to march, say I am!
We are The Other 98%. We are America. All of us. Together. We want our country back. And we are on the move.
