Rep. Schakowsky has introduced legislation that would set new, progressive tax brackets for ultra-wealthy Americans – right now, the top marginal tax rate is the same for Americans making $300,000 a year and those making a cool $300 million.

When introducing the bill she was quoted as saying:

“In the United States today, the richest 1 percent owns 34 percent of our nation’s wealth — that’s more than the entire bottom 90 percent, who own just 29 percent of the country’s wealth…And the top one-hundredth of 1 percent now makes an average of $27 million per household per year. The average income for the bottom 90 percent of Americans? $31,244.”

In a time of increasing inequality, Rep. Schakowsky has the guts to stand up for what’s right, and tell the truth.
