The backlash first began after Trump’s Presidential campaign announcement, where he slandered Mexicans, saying: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. … They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
In response, Univision, the largest Spanish-language media company in the United States, announced it was severing its relationship with Trump, and refusing to air his Miss USA pageant.
Soon after, a petition was created calling on NBC to also dump Trump, garnering over 213,000 signatures.
It appears to have worked. As The Hollywood Reporter reports:
The network is “ending its business relationship” with Trump over his “recent derogatory statements” regarding immigrants, the company said in a statement Monday.
According to the statement, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants will no longer air on NBC, and Trump will no longer participate in The Apprentice on NBC.
